SINGAPORE: A real
life American idol and one who's been at it for the past 4 decades. Now Dionne
Warwick will be wooing Singapore fans with her music at a concert on Thursday.
The latest trip for the 5-time Grammy winner was also a little special.
She's been at it for 40 years, with her voice still sounding good.
Unlike other artistes, Dionne Warwick does not want to be categorised into any
particular genre.
Rather she'd describe her music as a blend of soul, gospel and R&B.
And though a music idol herself, the 62-year-old is not for talent shows like
the American Idol.
Replying unequivocally if she would have taken part in such a show to kickstart
her career, she said: "No!"
Besides music, her humanitarian work in raising funds for AIDS research was also
acknowledged by the American Embassy, as the former US Ambassador for Health was
given the "American Citizen Honour Award."
"To receive an accolade always makes a smile, makes you feel that whatever is it
that you are trying to do is being accepted," she said.
US Ambassador to Singapore, Frank Lavin, said: "Dionne Warwick is much more than
an internationally acclaimed star. Her professional success has been matched by
her humanitarian activities and she has placed her art at the service for
humanity."
Here with her elder son, the mother of two also touched on some of her new
projects including a commemorative double CD compilation of duets with 40
recording artistes.
Her concert on Thursday night will be held at Suntec City. - CNA
